
The aim of an editorial charter is to specify:
- a company’s guiding discourse (key values, brand platform, main differentiating points),
- the editorial line it wishes to take for each target,
- the company’s writing conventions.

An editorial charter can also be applied or dedicated to a specific communications channel. For example, in addition to the aforementioned points, an internet editorial charter:
- describes the editorial expectations for each page template and the various modules,
- indicates specific web-writing techniques,
- details the rules that facilitate accessibility and natural referencing.
